BEST OF 2011: SK707

5 January 2012 No Comment

11 from ’11 courtesy of Playdoh contributor Sk707.

Brassica – Lydden Circuit [Cyber Dance]
This track manages to sound unique amongst a sea of house music banality.

Virgo Four – It’s A Crime (Caribou Remix) [Rush Hour]
Dan Snaith took the highlight of Virgo Four’s ‘Resurrection’ compilation of unreleased tracks and reinterpreted it in a way that only Caribou could.

SBTRKT – Wildfire (Objekt Remix) [Young Turks]
Objekt came out of nowhere to take techno by storm in 2011 and this remix takes Little Dragon’s pop vocals and places them on top of a violently aggressive beat to create dancefloor mayhem.

Martyn – We Are You in the Future [Brainfeeder]
‘Ghost People’ is one of my albums of the year and this epic number forms the finale with its constantly shifting forms segueing perfectly to give the album a fitting climax.

Omar-S – Here’s Your Trance, Now Dance! [FXHE]
Alex O. Smith took the techno world by surprise with this effortlessly effervescent track that begs to be played at sunrise on a Mediterranean hilltop.

Addison Groove – Work It [Swamp 81]
That ‘Work It’ was rinsed by DJ Stingray in his sets this year tells you everything you need to know about this banger of an electro track.

John Heckle – The Voyager [Mathematics]
The ‘French Kiss’ homage in the middle is outrageous and epitomises the zeal of this italo & Dutch electro influenced track.

Oni Ayhun – Meets Shangaan Electro [Honest Jon’s]
The juxtaposition of the production idiosyncrasies of Oni Ayhun & Shangaan Electro makes this one of the most distinctive sounding records released this year.

Wolfram feat. Haddaway – Thing Called Love (Legowelt Remix) [Permanent Vacation]
Singalong house music from the ‘What is Love’ vocalist, benefiting from Legowelt’s deft production.

Lory D – Acidronix [Numbers]
Beastly techno from the Italian producer. Not for the faint of heart or hearing.

MD – It Ain’t What it Ain’t [Rush Hour]
Euphoric Underground Resistance aping techno from the mysterious MD.
